Here’s a mnemonic I just thought up for remembering the clinical features of Chronic Renal Failure while I was studying Pathoma.
Chronic Renal Failure has the following Clinical Features.
“LOW C-OST URETHANE”
LOW Calcium
OSTeodystrophy (Osteoporosis, Osteomalacia, Osteitis Fibrosis Cystica)
Uremia –> U-NAPPED (see below)
RETention of NaCl & Water
HypErKalemia & HypErPhosphatemia (w/ Metabolic Acidosis)
ANEmia
Now, to remember the clinical features of Uremia itself (the “U” above) use the following acronym.
U NAPPED (“You napped”)
Uremia:
Nausea
Anorexia
Pericarditis
Platelet Aggregation & Adhesion Dysfunction
Encephalopathy with Asterixis
Deposits of Urea Crystals in the Skin
